For the last couple of months, I have not been able to read as much as I would like. With school, work, and procrastination I have been kept rather busy. My shelves are lined with titles that I have been collecting for the past 8 years. Definitely my buying is out pacing my reading. I was currently reading the book Loot, which is about a book on stolen art. Unfortunately, I have misplaced my book and don’t know where it is at the moment.
I wanted to start American Pastoral by Philip Roth, but I have let a co-worker borrow the book. I have read one other book by Roth and enjoyed it. I have picked up, Leviathan for this YA book club that I am in for adults. Since the club was started by Jane, this makes me a member of the group by default. Not to say that I don’t like meeting and talking about the books. The people in the group are great and we have a good time, but YA is not my cup-o-tea.
By September 6th I had read 34 books. By far the most that I had read in a single year. This is nothing compared to how much my girlfriend has read. Currently she is around 134 books this year. Now I say that she cheats, because she reads YA titles about 98% of the time and they tend to be larger print than a regular novel. I wished I was able to devour titles like she does, but alas I am can’t.
Yesterday, Jane and I went to lunch during my break and visited the Novel Cafe near Pasadena City College. It was a good restaurant and I would have thought that they would have clever dishes named after authors, but they didn’t. The restaurant did have some books on their shelves. Nothing that I was willing to read. They had a travel guide to France on their shelves. Not what I would call a novel,
Well, I am always looking for a great novel or non-fiction title to read. Especially since I am heading into a school break in 3 weeks and will be having more time on my hands.
